No matter how much we know, how much in-control we imagine ourselves to be, the narrative of our life and vocation is going to be enveloped within this dimension of the unknown. Our origin as well as our iltimate end lie deep in God's heart, whoseworkings are ultimately unfathomable to finite creatures like ourselves. And many of the things that shall come our way throughout life are also going to be shrouded in this cloud of unknowing.
Yet what is important is to recognize the strong but gentle hand of God at work in all of them, guiding us to understand that what is truly important is not what we get out of life but the manner by which we respond to the gift of vocation we have been given. For the seminarian, this mysetery takes on a deeper significance as he grows in the understanding that the ultimate origins of his vocation lie in God's providential care. "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I dedicated you."
