Happy New Year!

We begin this year with the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God. This day was formerly celebrated as the feast of the Circumcision of Christ, since it is eight days after His birth and concludes the octave of Christmas. Though the 8 day octave ends there, the Christmas season lasted all the way from December 25th to February 2nd, the feast of the Presentation and Purification of Mary. As a result, the whole month of January should be spent in celebration of the Christmas mystery.

The Once and Future Roman Rite: Returning to the Traditional Latin Liturgy after Seventy Years of Exile

Upon the creation of the Novus Ordo rite, the Church hastily abandoned the Traditional Latin Mass in favor of a liturgy which seemed to be more accessible to the people and encourage their active participation in the liturgy. However, this book goes into detail describing the problems with this new rite, including how the liturgy should only be changed by divine direction, not merely by human decision. He makes the case that the future of the Church lies in returning to the tridentine rite.
