June Newsletter

June is the month of
the Sacred Heart!

Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus came through the visions and experiences given to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque of France in the seventeenth century. Since then Christians have used the image of the Sacred Heart to remind us of Christ's Love for us and to call us to return that Love.

New Bishop of St. Augustine Announced!

The Vatican announced on May 24th. that Pope Francis has appointed Father Erik Pohlmeier the next bishop of the Diocese of St. Augustine. For the past 24 years, Bishop-elect Pohlmeier has served as a pastor in the Diocese of Little Rock, which encompasses the entire state of Arkansas.

In his new appointment, Father Pohlmeier succeeds Bishop Felipe J. Estévez, who has served the St. Augustine Diocese for the past 11 years and is retiring at the age of 76. Bishop-elect Pohlmeier will be installed as the 11th bishop of St. Augustine on Friday, July 22 with Archbishop Thomas Wenski of Miami presiding at the ordination liturgy. Bishop Anthony B. Taylor of Little Rock and Bishop Estévez will be co-consecrators.

Want to celebrate Holy Mass as the Apostles did?

The traditional Latin Mass has remained relatively unchanged throughout the centuries and remains the Heart of the Church. Today, Catholics, young people especially, are returning to this ancient rite because of its reverence and beauty.

Come to the traditional Latin Mass this month at Immaculate Conception, St. Joseph's, St. Patrick's, and St. Edward'sAfter June 29, the Latin Mass will be held only at St. Joseph's and at St. Edward's in the Diocese of St. Augustine.

New to the Latin Mass? Check out the Traditional Latin Mass Jacksonville website for information on what it is and how to celebrate it. Or pick up a Benedictus magazine at the store--like the Magnificat but with all the daily readings in Latin and English.
